Pointe-aux-Vieux Acadian Site
In the spring of 2009, after monitoring the shoreline for several years and observing the damaging effects of extensive costal erosion, an archaeological test at the Acadian farm site known as Pointe-aux-Vieux was conducted. Excavations revealed a pattern of field stones that was part of a structural foundation and associated fireplace or oven which was full of charcoal and some cultural remains.
Further excavations will reveal the full extent of the foundation; however, testing confirms that this was a typically small Acadian house, situated not far from the shore and with access to a range of resources including timber and a freshwater spring.
