2004-11-15: Now That's Responsible Government
Letter to the Editor

I was extremely pleased to hear that the Premier has asked that the August request for the appointment of a fourth provincial court judge be withdrawn. I am even more pleased to read that the government will move forward with the main goal of that initial request: to make improvements in the area of family violence prevention.
I am hopeful that the Province will invest in this commitment to family violence prevention by applying the resources that would have been made available for a judgeship to other areas that will support a family violence court and response for PEI, such as front-line support for women and children, treatment for offenders and family law legal aid.
I have much respect for a government that is flexible and willing to change its mind to better meet the needs of the people it represents. I applaud the Premier and his Cabinet for doing their job well in listening to the community and making changes based on what they hear. Thatís my definition of responsible government.
