Advisory Council Shares Its Priorities with Executive Council

On November 30, 2004, members and staff of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women met with members of PEI's Executive Council for a dialogue on the ACSW's role and purpose. The Advisory Council's objective in the meeting was to set the stage for a collaborative relationship with government and to advise on priority items requiring government action to improve the status of women, girls, and families in PEI.

ACSW Chairperson Kirstin Lund said that the Advisory Council's top priority issues for the coming 12 months included 1) funding and support for Family Law Legal Aid, 2) sufficient financial resources for Family Violence Prevention, and, on a less tight timeline, 3) electoral reforms resulting in proportional representation.

Council followed up on the meeting with a personal note to each Minister, highlighting for each some issues in their ministry that are of concern to women. The Council intends to meet annually with Executive Council to continue to enhance collaborative work.
