2009 Purple Ribbon Campaign Against Violence
The Purple Ribbon Campaign Against Violence (Campagne du ruban violet contre la violence) was initiated by the ACSW in 1991 to remember the 14 women who were murdered at L’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6, 1989, and to raise awareness about violence against women.
This year, in 2009, the PEI Purple Ribbon Campaign marks the 20th Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre and also sombrely remembers the eight women murdered on PEI from 1989 to 2009. Campaign materials show just how many steps have been made to help prevent or end violence against women on Prince Edward Island in the past 20 years.
Again this year over 20,000 ribbons and bilingual cards will be distributed. For more information, please email Sandy at or call the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women at 902-368-4510.
