Advisory Council on the Status of Women
Projects and Events
The Advisory Council on the Status of Women coordinates several annual projects and events:
Purple Ribbon Campaign: The Purple Ribbon Campaign Against Violence annually remembers the 14 women murdered in Montreal in 1989 and all women and children victims of violence. The Advisory Council distributes thousands of purple ribbons that Islanders can wear to show their solidarity against violence. Council also creates information cards that bring Islanders up to date on statistics on family violence on PEI.
Bursaries: The Advisory Council administers three bursaries each year -- one for a woman attending the University of Prince Edward Island, one for a woman attending Holland College, and one for a woman who entered Canada as a refugee and is furthering her education. Application forms are available on-line. A fourth Advisory Council bursary, for women in engineering, is administered by the UPEI Registrar's Office.
International Women's Day: The Advisory Council annually coordinates or contributes to events celebrating United Nations-declared International Women's Day on Prince Edward Island.
Past Projects: Find out more about past projects such as the Equality Recognition Awards.
