Library Program - International Women's Day Lunch and Learn

A Bold Vision AnthologyA Celebration of International Women's Day
Confederation Centre Public Library
Friday, March 6 at 12 noon

Becka Viau, A Bold Visionary for PEI, will speak about her participation in the Bold Vision conference in a presentation sponsored by the Interministerial Women's Secretariat. Join Becka and be a part of the diversity of women's voices contributing to the ongoing discussions of the Canada we continue to build.

This presentation also marks the donation of copies of the anthology A Bold Vision to the Public Library Service by the Women's Network P.E.I., and the Interministerial Women's Secretariat. If you are unable to attend the presentation, you can borrow the collection of essays, interviews, poems, and artwork from any public library. #MakeItHappen and join the call for greater recognition of the achievements of all women.

International Women's Day Coffee House Banner

March 8th – Coffee House

Events will kick off on Sunday March 8th from 2 - 5pm with an IWD Coffee House at St. Peter's Church Hall, entrance at the corner of Fitzroy and Rochford streets. The event celebrates “Bread and Roses,” a reference to the historic activism of women garment workers who demanded an end to unsafe labour conditions in the early 1900’s. The Coffee House will feature music, dance and comedy performances by a diversity of Island women.

Monday, March 9
Gulabi Gang Film Screening

International Women's Day Gulabi Gang Banner

Cinema Politica will host a screening of Gulabi Gang, a 2012 documentary about a women's vigilante group in India. This impeccably shot documentary is about a group of fearless women who fight gender violence. The pink-clad women travel long distances by cart and tractor, bus and train, to wrest justice for women, undeterred by sneering policemen and condescending bureaucrats. The film will be shown at the Murphy's Community Centre, beginning at 7pm, and will be followed by a moderated discussion.

Tuesday, March 10
Wisdom Circle exploring Island women's journey for reproductive justice

International Women's Day Women's Wisdom Circle

An event titled, What will make it happen? Advocacy // Activism // Agitation: Repatriating Abortion services on PEI is being organized by Becka Viau. Members of the public are welcomed to join reproductive justice advocates, activists and academics in a participatory discussion that will explore the complex relationships required to achieve social change and local access to publicly funded abortion services on P.E.I. This event will take place the Murphy Community Centre, 200 Richmond Street, Room #207, from 7pm – 9pm.
