Event: Beekeeping Workshops
Date(s): Jul 09, 2015 - Jul 10, 2015
Location: Farm Centre, Charlottetown
Description:

The PEI Department of Agriculture & Fisheries and the PEI Beekeepers' Association have partnered to offer two separate workshops to PEI beekeepers.

The goal is to provide basic beekeeping information to new (beginning) beekeepers on July 9.
A more advanced Integrated Pest Management workshop will be offered on July 10 to beekeepers who have some experience keeping honey bees. Anyone wishing to take the workshop on July 10 (IPM) must have at least one year's experience keeping honey bees, or will have taken the beginner beekeeper workshop on July 9.

The agenda for each workshop is attached.

There will be a strict maximum of 25 participants for each workshop. If the interest from the beekeeping community exceeds available seats, a waiting list will be created in the event that a seat becomes available. These will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.

The PEI Beekeepers' Association will be providing a BBQ for lunch during the workshops.

Each workshop will begin at 8:30 am and finish around 5 pm each day.

Workshop Format:
Both the Introductory and IPM workshops will be comprised of inside (classroom) sessions and hands-on work in the bee yard. Participants are required to bring their own personal protective equipment (bee suites, vails, gloves, boots, etc.) to the workshop.

Instructors:
The Ontario Beekeepersí Associationís Tech Transfer Program (TTP) team will be the instructors for the workshops. This team of three hands-on individuals has a lot of experience and knowledge working with honey bees in both a research and extension education capacity. The TTP team is comprised of Les Eccles, Melanie Kempers and Daniel Thurston.

Registration Deadline:
Participants must register no later than Friday, June 19, 2015 by contacting Chris Jordan.
Please note that participants are NOT considered registered until the $30 registration fee per workshop has been received by the PEI Department of Agriculture & Fisheries.
