Uglynest Caterpillar
Description:
- egg masses - oval, brown, covered with semi-transparent rubbery substance
- nest - fills with excrement & bits of leaves
- larvae - feed together, 20mm, yellowish green with shiny black head
- adult - moth dull orange, wingspan 18mm - 25mm
What it attacks:
- cherry, hawthorn, rose, other trees & shrubs
Damage:
- feeds on foliage
- spins web around feeding site
Prevention/Control:
- dawn or dusk prune & destroy nests with insect inside
- safers soap
- some forms of B.t.
- dormant oil
