Canada Thistle

Description:
  • perennial
  • from seeds & from root stock
  • stems - 30-150cm tall, usually branched, slender, smooth
  • leaves - lobed & spiny, alternate 1/node, stalkless
  • flower heads - numerous, 5-15mm wide, rose-purple colour

Where They Are Found:

  • cultivated fields, roadsides

Prevention/Control:

  • rotation of crops helps control population
  • small patches should be destroyed by digging out roots
