Canada Thistle

Description:

perennial
from seeds & from root stock
stems - 30-150cm tall, usually branched, slender, smooth
leaves - lobed & spiny, alternate 1/node, stalkless
flower heads - numerous, 5-15mm wide, rose-purple colour

Where They Are Found:

cultivated fields, roadsides

Prevention/Control:

rotation of crops helps control population
small patches should be destroyed by digging out roots
