The Agriculture Policy and Regulatory Division has a wide ranging mandate, which includes Federal - Provincial agricultural policy and trade issues; administration of industry development programs; on-farm food safety; potato quality; Marketing Council; supply and non-supply managed commodity liaison; domestic and foreign trade; research; marketing legislation; traceability; horse development; community pastures; emergency preparedness; and foreign animal disease.
The Agriculture Policy and Regulatory Division works in partnership with general agriculture and agri-food organizations, provincial commodity organizations and educational institutions in the development and implementation of industry led strategies that address short and long term critical issues and create wealth for the agri-food sector in a sustainable fashion.
The Plant Health Section is located on 5th Floor, Jones Bldg, 11 Kent Street, Charlottetown, PE C1A 7N8. The Plant Health Regulatory Program is responsible for those issues and programs outlined in the Plant Health Act and Plant Health Act Potato Regulations as they relate to potato production on PEI. The Section is responsible for monitoring, management and control of regulated diseases, for enforcement of minimum planting standards and for the supervision of the cull burial, disinfection and virus testing programs. The Section establishes eligibility for planting and prepares Planting Permits for all seed potatoes brought into PEI and monitors all plantings to insure compliance with the Plant Health Act.

This section is directly responsible for the administration of twelve of the statutes assigned to the Department. In addition, the Section is committed to ongoing improvement in the quality of and compliance with all statutes as it relates to meeting the objectives of the Department's clients.

Boys and girls across Prince Edward Island participate in 4-H projects such as computers, crafts, environment, livestock and much more as they "Learn To Do By Doing".
