Search the Census Documents

Searching the Census documents is easy. Define your search by following the five simple steps outlined below. Click the Perform Search button to begin, or the Clear Values button to start over.

  1. On which surname do you want to search?
(Use the asterisk character * as a wildcard to widen the number of results. e.g., A search on surname "MacDonald" will return just that name; a search on surname "M*Donald" will return MacDonald and McDonald.)

  2. If you want to narrow your search, enter the first letter of a given name here:
(e.g., A search on surname "MacDonald" and initial "M" will return fewer results than a search only on the surname itself.)

  3. How do you want the results sorted? (Ascending order only)
      Surname
      Given name
      Lot number
(Sorting is performed in ascending order.)

  4. Choose the years in which your search will take place. To add or remove a year, select or de-select the year's corresponding checkbox below:
1841 (Full Census Detail, covering roughly 40% of the colony.)
      1881 (Index to all individuals.)
1891 (Index to all individuals except for Lots 21 & 22 (missing from the original record).)
      1901 (Index to all individuals.)
