Online Databases

The Public Archives and Records Office of Prince Edward Island is committed to making on-line research of our holdings as extensive as possible. To that end we have cooperated with other archival institutions across the province, under the umbrella of the Archives Council of Prince Edward Island, to create Archives PEI, a database of finding aids to provincial archival holdings. This database allows you to learn about records which may be of interest to you, find out where records are located, and how you can access them. You may search this database through the Archives Council of PEI website at www.archives.pe.ca/peiain.

We are also in the process of creating searchable databases of some of our collections which are most in demand by researchers. This is an on-going activity and more records will be systematically added to databases and new collections will be accessible as the databases are created. Currently available are the following:

Through the Council of Provincial and Territorial Archivists, the Public Archives also contributes to a federated national database of genealogy material available through the That's My Family website. This federated database searches the PEI Baptismal Database, as well as databases maintained by Library and Archives Canada and other national and territorial archives across the country. For more information or to start your search using this powerful genealogical tool, please visit www.thatsmyfamily.info.
