Community and Church Histories

Central Street, Summerside, ca. 1893 (Acc3218/127)
Central Street, Summerside, ca. 1893 (Acc3218/127)
A large part of a community's history revolves around the individuals and families who have lived there. Most community histories contain sections devoted to the genealogies of the local families. Even if they do not, there is always information about individuals in the community, whether it be the local schoolteacher, postmaster or farmer. As the church was more often than not the centre of the social as well as the religious life of a community, church histories may provide clues for your research. Both provide a setting for your ancestors which gives them a reality beyond names and dates.

To locate a church or community history through the Provincial Library service, please search the Provincial Library catalogue.
