Early Spring, Souris, P.E.I., circa 1920

The Souris Main Lighthouse began operation in December 1880. In 1881, tenders were called for a lighthouse dwelling. In January 1959, Kings County Member of Parliament, John A. MacDonald, announced that the lighthouse would be torn down and replaced.
