Welcome

Welcome to the Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development website. This site provides a unique opportunity for our department to supply you with information on the new Canada/PEI Labour Market Development Agreement that was developed to meet the changing labour market needs of Islanders.

This Made in PEI Agreement ensures that programs and services delivered by local HRDC offices will be customized to reflect the specific needs, circumstances and priorities of Employment Insurance (EI) eligible clients on PEI.

The Agreement is a new opportunity which should result in more effective employment programs based on the capabilities of Islanders, our economy and our unique situation. It will provide the PEI labour market with the ability to upgrade its skill level to match the potential job opportunities in sectors which have been targeted for growth based on provincial economic development activities.

This agreement enables federal and provincial governments to work in association with labour market partners such as employers, workers and community-based organizations to offer a more efficient and effective service -- helping unemployed Islanders obtain long-term employment. This co-operative approach will aid in the creation of a skilled labour force that will help us develop more jobs and enable established firms to bid on new contracts, to compete globally, and to stay competitive with technology in all sectors.

The partnership's main focus will be the creation of wealth rather than distribution of wealth. Wealth creation is necessary to maintain our Island lifestyle and work toward improving the quality of life for all Islanders.

We hope this site will be able to answer any questions you may have about the new Canada/PEI Labour Market Development Agreement and will help you recognize the positive implications this Agreement will have for Islanders.
