Transportation Plan for School Opening on Thursday, March 26

All schools in the English Language School Board will open on Thursday, March 26.

All buses for Souris Regional School and the Colonel Gray Family of Schools will run as normal on Thursday.

Buses for all other schools will not be running on Thursday. Parents/guardians for those schools are required to transport their children to and from school. Parents are asked to follow the Alternate Student Transportation Plan as posted on this website and school websites.

The School Board has been advised by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal that single-lane road conditions continue to exist throughout many regions of the province. In many areas, transportation routes are not adequate to support safe school bus transportation.   This has been confirmed by our school bus drivers who have evaluated their specific routes. A significant percentage of routes continue to include roadways that are not safely passable or easily rerouted.

With the abnormally high volume of vehicle and student traffic, parents/guardians are requested to:

  • Thoroughly review your school’s plan for safe drop-off and pick-up zones.
  • Exercise extreme caution when approaching school zones.
  • Expect delays during drop off and pick up times.
  • Do not leave your vehicle when dropping off students in order to maintain adequate traffic flow.

Travel conditions will continue to be monitored. School buses will begin their regular runs for other families of schools as soon as the school board deems it safe to do so.

The English Language School Board would like to thank parents/guardians for their cooperation and patience. A special thanks to the travelling public, principals, and all staff for their professionalism and input to ensure the safe transportation of our students.

Notice to the Travelling Public

Expect Higher than Average Volumes of Traffic around ELSB Schools on Thursday

Narrow road conditions continue to prohibit safe school bus transportation in many areas of the province. All schools in the English Language School Board will open on Thursday; however, parents will be responsible to transport students in all families of schools with the exception of Souris Regional School and the Colonel Gray Family of Schools.

With expected higher than normal volumes of traffic around Island schools, the travelling public is requested to slow down and exercise extreme caution when approaching school zones. Delays can be expected in these areas during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Thank you to parents, the travelling public, and English Language School Board staff for your cooperation and patience in ensuring the safe transportation of our students.
