Family Literacy Day

The teachers at Greenfield know that parents are children’s first teachers. We know that families join us in developing a love of reading and  a love for books in our students.  It is at home that language and literacy skills begin and are reinforced.

Family is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and it is held annually.  This year Family Literacy Day is on January 27th.  The goal is to raise awareness to the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.

Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development.  Just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.  Read more about the importance of family literacy at abclifeliteracy.ca/family-literacy.
