Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP)
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development supports the Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP) to assess student performance in the core subjects of reading, mathematics and science.
PCAP assesses 13-year-old students in all provinces and one territory (Yukon) in Canada. It provides a valuable information base on student achievement at a national level and tells us how our curriculum is compared to other jurisdictions across the country.
Two years after this assessment, this same group of students is assessed at the international level through the Programme of International Student Assessment (PISA).
This provides some information about student progress over time.
