Autism
In Prince Edward Island, the autism consultants at the school boards and the Autism Coordinator at the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development can provide individual consultation, assessment and behavioural support for students with autism spectrum disorders in Grades 1-12 or school exit. This service is available to students who have a confirmed diagnosis of Autism, PDD-NOS or Asperger Syndrome. Training and support for school staff serving these students is an integral component of the Autism Coordinator and Consultant role. Intensive support is offered to assist families with transitions, particularly from pre-school into Grade 1.
A lending library of autism related print and media resources is maintained by the Autism Coordinator and may be accessed, in PEI only, by calling (902)569-7792.
