Kindergarten Teaching Positions
There will be approximately 110 kindergarten teaching positions. Existing kindergarten educators will be given first consideration for the new positions. These educators have specialized knowledge and training in early childhood development. They also have the most experience with the play-based, integrated curriculum which will continue to be used in the school-based program.
Eligible applicants are certified early childhood educators who have at least one year of employment in the PEI kindergarten program since 2000. Preference will be given to current PEI kindergarten educators. Applicants must achieve the superior level in a provincial French proficiency test to teach French first language and French Immersion kindergarten.
The kindergarten teacher competition closed in late November. Interviews were held in December and January. School Boards will receive lists of successful candidates shortly and will provide offer letters to candidates.
UPEI is now modifying their BEd program to accommodate kindergarten educators who are moving to the public school system. Those who do not have a Bachelor of Education degree will be required to complete a Bachelor of Education with an Early Years Concentration by 2016. The deadline for applications to UPEI is February 20, 2010. More information is available on UPEI's website.
