Air Monitoring
Prince Edward Island has three stations (Wellington, Southampton, and Charlottetown) that monitor air quality. These stations measure a number of air quality indicators, including ground level ozone and fine particulate matter. These are the two main components of smog. This data is collected as part of a co-operative program run by the federal government and the provinces and territories, and is used to produce an Air Quality Health Index. The Air Quality Health Index provides accurate and timely information to help Canadians protect themselves from the negative effects of air pollution. This is particularly important for Islanders who have asthma or another respiratory condition.
