When do I need a Home Heat Tank Installer's License?

Anyone who installs or inspects a home heat tank system of 2,200 litres or less must hold a valid Home Heat Tanks Installer's License.

How can I obtain a Home Heat Tank Installer's License?

You must complete an application form and forward it, together with the applicable fee, to the department.

Are there additional requirements?

Yes.  A licensed installer must meet the following requirements:

  • hold a valid certificate as an Oil Heat System Technician, Sheet Metal Worker, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, or Plumber;
  • have completed either an installer's course or an industry based training program approved by the Minister;
  • show competence by holding an equivalent licence in another jurisdiction or successfully completing an exam administrated, adopted, or accepted by the Minister; and
  • provide written proof that they hold appropriate insurance (general liability and pollution).

Licence holders must not cancel their insurance coverage without providing a written, 30-day advance notice to the Minister.

What is the cost?

The cost of a Home Heat Tank Installer's License is $50.00  There is no HST.

For how long is a Home Heat Tank Installer's License valid?

Licenses are valid for a maximum of 2 years.  ALL licenses expire on January 31, 2016.
