Entrance Way Permit
If you are purchasing a piece of property along an arterial or seasonal highway, the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal must approve access to the highway in accordance with the regulations under the Roads Act.It is important to ensure that if you are buying a parcel of land that is not an approved building lot, that the property has safe access for an entrance way on a provincial highway. Failure to ensure this may mean that you would not be able to develop the property. The enforcement of regulations for safe highway access falls under the Roads Act Highway Access Regulations.
To obtain an entrance way permit for an arterial or seasonal highway or to determine safe access to a provincial highway, contact the Traffic Operations Staff of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal if you require:
- a farm field entrance along all Provincial Highways when there is no building or subdivision involved
- an entrance way along an arterial highway for commercial, industrial or institutional uses
- an entrance way along all Provincial Highways within Municipalities that administor their Official Plans and Bylaws
