Pesticide Applicator Exams

Individuals wanting to apply a non-domestic pesticide must first complete an open-book, written examination to obtain a Pesticide Applicator Certificate.  A pass mark of not less than 75% is required. Certificates are valid for a maximum period of five years and the fee is $75. 

Pesticide Applicator Certificates are available in the following classes:

  • Agricultural
  • Biting Fly Control
  • Forestry
  • Greenhouse
  • Landscape
  • Manual Application of Herbicides
  • Seed Piece Treatment (application of a pesticide to seed potatoes or grain)
  • Soil Fumigation
  • Tree Seedling Production

Re-Certification
To renew an Agricultural class certificate, indivduals can choose to write another examination, or they can participate in the Pesticide Applicator Continuing Education Program offered by the PEI Department of Agriculture and Forestry.  For additional information, contact the department at 368-4154 or 1-866-734-3276.

To renew any other applicator class certificate, individuals must complete another written examination.

A variety of training materials is available for individuals wishing to study for a Pesticide Applicator Certificate exam.  Contact 368-5599 to purchase a printed copy of one or more training manuals.
