Maps

Contour Maps (at 2 meter intervals) of Prince Edward Island are available in electronic format from the Resource Inventory and Modelling Section, Department of Agriculture and Forestry.  Information on sloped land (0-2 %, 2-5 %, 5-9 %, and greater than 9 % slope) is also available.

Soil Maps of Prince Edward Island were completed in 1988.  This mapping was done at a scale of 1:10000 and produced as hard copy maps and reports.  The Department of Agriculture and Forestry has soil mapping information available electronically.  This information is available in part or whole for all of Prince Edward Island.  Soil information includes; soil polygons, soil type, soil texture, drainage, stoniness, depth to compact layers and soil slope.

Satellite Imagery has been collected by the Resource Inventory and Modelling Section since 1995.  This information has been used mainly for planning and modelling purposes related to agriculture and forestry activities (ie. crop rotation studies, clear cutting).  Land use identified from the imagery includes:

  • forest cover,
  • potatoes,
  • grains,
  • hay/pasture land and
  • other crops

Accuracy of the results may vary (80 - 95 %) from year to year due to the resolution of the imagery itself (30 meters) and the cloud cover when the satellite passes over Prince Edward Island. Data is available electronically.

Custom GIS Products involving any part or all of the resource data layers available to the Department of Environment, Labour and Justice is also available.  Examples would include site specific data interpretation and analysis, buffer zone location and interpretation and soil erosion potential.

Interactive Maps are available on-line.  These include:
