Pharmacy Services

Government works with pharmacy owners to ensure communities have access to services and to find ways to effectively use the skills and expertise of pharmacists in the delivery of health care to Islanders.

Government values the role of pharmacists in the health care system and ensures that pharmacists are fairly compensated for the services they provide to public drug program recipients.

Government is currently working through a consultative process with the Prince Edward Island Pharmacists' Association (PEIPA) to ensure the immediate impacts of new generic drug pricing will not affect access to pharmacies and the services they provide to Islanders.

Similar generic drug reforms in other jurisdictions have not lead to pharmacy closures.
