Island Community Fund investments announced

George Henderson of Freeland and David Cole of New London have received the 2013 Provincial Minister’s Shellfish Recognition Awards for their long-standing contributions to Prince Edward Island’s shellfish industry which employs more than 2,500 people and contributes approximately $74 million annually to the economy.

Provincial funding for a new music and interpretation centre in Abram-Village will strength tourism in the region while showcasing Prince Edward Island’s rich Acadian culture.

An investment of more than $300,000 by the Governments of Canada, Prince Edward Island and the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation in a new,specialized events tent will support Prince Edward Island’s largest festivals and benefit the Prince Edward Island economy.

Low-interest Loan Program reopens for Island Lobster Fishers

Finance PEI will also be extending the interest rate of 4% for existing clients for an additional year.

The Low-interest Loan Program has been reopened for Prince Edward Island fishers experiencing financial difficulties due to rising costs, low landings and market conditions. Program applications can be accepted until June 30, 2014.
