Quality Management ProjectA Quality Management Project was initiated in October 1999 to assist small and medium sized PEI seafood processors enhance their quality systems to meet new requirements of the Federal Fish Inspection Regulation administered by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The project evolved into a joint effort between the Province and the Prince Edward Island Seafood Processors Association utilizing funding from the PEI Atlantic Shrimp Company Inc.
Work done in this past year provided assistance to the plants in the implementation of their Quality Management Programs that were developed in the previous phase of this long-term project. A private consulting firm, Innovative Quality Solutions, provided the required technical services and expertise. A Quality Management Working Group Committee comprised of Provincial Fisheries and Aquaculture staff and PEI Seafood Processors Association representatives co-ordinated the project.
