Rural Action Plan
- The development of five Rural Action Centres
- The implementation of Island-wide Rural Broadband
- Primary Industries will be strengthened by investment in innovation, research and development, agro-environment measures and amendments to legislation in order to improve competitiveness in agriculture, reduce environmental impacts and provide benefits to the aquaculture and tourism industries
- The provision of increased resources for community-based development
- The provision of stable funding to Regional Tourism Associations
- Investments and approaches will be identified that will result in expanded and diversified opportunities in the rural west and rural east regions
Rural Development PEI is a ministerial com
mittee that will implement the 40 actions set out in the Rural Action Plan. The committee is comprised of all ministers supporting the implementation of the plan and is chaired by the minister responsible for rural development. A committee of deputy ministers will provide senior policy development assistance regarding rural issues on a government-wide basis. The status of the Rural Action Plan is updated as the 40 measures are initiated, underway, completed or announced. Rural Development PEI will be rural Islander's first and easiest access point to development programs and support.
