Office of Energy Efficiency to spend more of its funding on grants

Since it opened in 2008, the Office of Energy Efficiency has provided more than $3.3 million in grants to 4,600 residential clients.

The budget for energy efficient grants will increase by more than $300,000 as the Office of Energy Efficiency moves away from issuing loans to focus on its other programs.

The Douglas MacMaster Memorial Occupational Health and Safety Award was introduced in 2006 to celebrate individual or team achievements by government employees in the promotion and development of health and safety. Award nominations are being accepted by the Public Service Commission until May 17.

At the present time, only 10 percent of the land in Prince Edward Island is covered by an official plan, and that has resulted in a growing number of land use conflicts and other land use issues.

The Task Force on Land Use Policy is launching public consultations next week. Since its establishment last fall, it has developed draft land use policies for public discussion and feedback before making its recommendations to government.

Harnessing renewable energy from the wind

Once constructed and online the new Hermanville and Clearspring wind farm will generate an extra 30 megawatts of publicly owned wind energy annually.

Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs Minister Wes Sheridan has announced that the proposed wind farm for the Hermanville and Clearspring area of Eastern Kings County has been granted environmental approval.
