Hunting Licences

Resident Hunting Licence

Licences cost $10 plus an additional $20 charge ($13 for senior 65 years and older) for the Wildlife Conservation Fund fee. The Wildlife Conservation Fund Licence fee is charged once annually with the first fishing, hunting or trapping licence purchased.

A resident is a person who:

  • has resided in the province for a period of six (6) months prior to making an application for a license;
  • is taking educational training of a three-month minimum duration within the province and has resided in the province for a period of two weeks immediately prior to making an application for a licence;
  • is taking educational training outside the province and resided in the province for a period of six months immediately prior to taking the educational training;
  • proves to the satisfaction of the Minister that he or she has resided in the province for the purpose of employment for an aggregate period of six months within the twelve months immediately preceding the making of an application; or,
  • was born in the province and owns real property in the province.

Non-Resident Hunting Licence

Under the hunting guide regulations that came into effect in September 2005, hunting guides and outfitters must be licensed by the province and non-resident hunters must be accompanied by either a licensed resident hunter or a registered hunting guide while hunting in Prince Edward Island.

Licences cost $75, with a $20 charge ($13 for senior 65 years and older) for the Wildlife Conservation Fund licence fee.  The Wildlife Conservation Fund Licence fee is charged once annually with the first fishing, hunting or trapping licence purchased. You must also possess a firearm safety certificate in order to purchase the Non-resident Hunting Licence.

Youth Hunting Licence

Youth (under 16) require a youth hunting licence. There is no charge for this licence, nor are youth required to purchase a Wildlife Conservation Fund licence.

Youth who are 16 or 17 years of age can apply to the PEI Firemans Office for a minor's permit which will allow them to hunt alone on conditions outlined in the permit.
