Provincially-Owned Lands

Provincially-owned Lands

The Forests, Fish and Wildlife Division manages approximately 31,000 hectares of provincially-owned land. It conserves and manages habitats on public lands through programs such as the Wildlife Management Areas, Natural Areas, and Provincial Forests. The Division also ensures public access to a number of wildlife related recreational and outdoor education opportunities.

The Fish and Wildlife program manages three types of public lands, Wildlife Management Areas, Natural Areas, and Ponds and Wetlands. For more information on the fourth category of public land, visit the Provincial Forest program web site.

Work conducted on these publicly owned properties is subject to public review and comment. You can learn more about work currently planned for these lands and provide feedback to the Division by visiting the What's Happening on Public Lands web site.

You can also learn more about the work of the Public Forest Council to promote awareness of the Island's public lands and get Islanders involved in the management and use of their lands.
