Tree and Shrub Planting Programs
Planting Programs for Schools and Communities:
The Greening Spaces Program provides native trees and shrubs to schools, communities and community groups for projects that beautify and improve the site for various educational, social and environmental needs.
Planting Programs for Farmers and Home Owners:
The Forests, Fish and Wildlife Division, in cooperation with the Agriculture Division, also offers a Hedgerow and Shelterbelt Program. Under this program, farmers can plant or maintain hedgerows to stabilize soils and prevent wind and water erosion. Shelterbelts can also be established around buildings and homes to reduce heat loss from winter winds, cool buildings during the summer and/or create sound and privacy buffers around the property.
Planting Programs for Forest Management:
Private forest owners can access a wide variety of forest management services and programs including planting through the Forest Enhancement Program.
Special Planting Programs:
The International Children's Memorial Place in Scales Pond near Freetown, provides a location where trees can be planted as living memorials to children who have passed away.
