Pre-Budget Consultations 2016-17

Fields marked with a red star (*) are mandatory.

The government of Prince Edward Island is working to balance the 2016-17 provincial budget

Government’s projected budget deficit is $32.9 million (as of March 2016). Difficult choices will have to be made to eliminate this deficit and achieve balance in the coming year.

How would you balance the budget? Increasing revenue by growing the economy? Spending more (or less) on certain government programs and services? Increasing (or lowering) taxes? Please provide your suggestions below, and thank you for taking the time to respond.

If you had to balance the budget would you raise more revenue by growing the economy? How? (please be specific)
Would you decrease spending on government programs or services? Which ones? (please be specific)
Would you reduce (or increase) taxes? (a tax reduction - such as indexing income-tax brackets to inflation – would increase the deficit).

If taxes are reduced:

What corresponding spending should be decreased so the province can stay on track to balance the budget?
