Purpose: The Dairy Livestock Genetic Enhancement Program was created to improve the overall genetic
potential of Prince Edward Island dairy herds. Increased genomic testing will position dairy producers to better understand the genetic potential of their animals. This will lead to better informed breeding and culling decisions.
Funding Levels & Eligible Costs: Dairy producers may qualify for a grant up to $20.00 per animal tested.
Funding is available for animals under 24 months of age. Dairy producers are only eligible to apply to the
program once over the three year period.
Funding Requirements:
- Eligible genomic tests include approved tests available through the breed associations
- Applicants must test at least 50% of their young stock (Animals under 24 months of age).
Funding Process
- Applicants will submit an application for approval.
- Upon approval, the Applicant will complete and pay for the testing.
- The applicant will be reimbursed after submission of invoices and proof of payment.
Application Deadline: There is no deadline to apply, however a fixed annual allotment has been set for the program. The Department of Agriculture & Forestry reserves the right to prorate funds to each producer, depending on demand and budget.
