A Private Nursing Home is a privately owned and operated establishment with five or more residents that is licensed by the Community Care Facilities and Nursing Homes Board under the authority of the Community Care Facilities and Nursing Homes Act.

The care required by the residents is carried out by or under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The type of care provided involves skilled professional assessment and observation on a 24 hour basis.
