Tobacco Sales and Access

 
The goals of this program are to restrict youth access to tobacco and ultimately to reduce the smoking rates of young people on PEI. Legislative authority for this program falls under the P.E.I. Tobacco Sales and Access Act and the Federal Tobacco Act.

This program has four main focuses:

Education
  • the focus is a community approach to increase awareness of the health impacts of tobacco use
  • keeping retailers aware of changes in regulations
Inspection
  • signage, advertising, pricing, display, promotional activities
Enforcement
  • decoy purchases
  • complaint investigations
  • warnings and summary offence tickets
