Introducing the Minister

Honourable Doug W. Currie

Minister of Health and Wellness

Doug Currie was first elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the provincial general election of 2007 in District 11, Charlottetown-Parkdale, and was re-elected in 2011. 

He was appointed Minister of Health and Minister of Social Services and Seniors in June 2007. In January 2010, he was appointed Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and Attorney General. In October 2011 he was appointed Minister of Health and Wellness.

Mr. Currie grew up in the district he now represents. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Prince Edward Island and also holds a Master of Education degree from the University of New Brunswick.

Mr. Currie has 19 years of educational experience as a classroom and special education teacher, school counsellor, vice principal and principal at several schools. He has provided leadership at the national level, in particular in 2008 when Prince Edward Island was the lead jurisdiction for federal, provincial and territorial health departments. He represented provincial and territorial Ministries of Health as part of the Canadian delegation to the World Health Organization Forum in Geneva, Switzerland in May, 2008.

Mr. Currie’s other interests include fitness activities and spending time with family. He and his wife Stephanie live in Charlottetown with their two young daughters, Hallie and Casey.
