Communicable Disease Program Goals:
- to prevent the occurrence of illnesses that can be transmitted from person to person (example includes immunization programs, infection control standards, environmental health inspections)
- to reduce or control spreading of illnesses once they occur (follow up of sexually transmitted diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, other notifiable diseases)
Who can I call to get information about communicable disease control?
Public Health Nursing offices have a role in educating about communicable diseases and following up on reportable illnesses.
Environmental Health conducts inspections, provides education and follows up on reports of foodborne outbreaks.
