Tanning Salons

The use of tanning beds is prohibited by anyone under the age of 18 in Prince Edward Island (as of September 1, 2013).


Tanning Salon Guidelines           NEW
Link to Health Canada's 2014 Guidelines for Tanning Salon Owners, Operators and Users.  The Guidelines include an update to Appendix E to reflect amendments to the federal Radiation Emitting Devices Regulations (Tanning Equipment), as well as modifications to the age limit recommendations.



Client Photo ID Requirement
A person choosing to use a tanning bed at tanning facility must present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's licence, passport or provincial ID card.


Tanning Facility Licence
A registration fee of $100 is required by any facility offering tanning services. The registration is valid for three years from the date of issue.  It is not transferable to another location or to another person. 


Tanning Facility Inspection
All commercial tanning facility operations will be subject to inspection as of September 1, 2013. Inspections are conducted by Environmental Health Officers.
