Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities

Canada Student Grants

The Canada Student Loans Program includes seven grants which are available to eligible students. Student loan application forms must be completed along with a grant application (some grants (as incidated) do not require separate applications).

Students with Disabilities

If a student has a permanent disability, which limits their physical or mental ability to perform the daily activities necessary to participate fully in post-secondary studies or in the labour force, they may wish to inquire about special programs available to assist in their studies. If a student's disability prevents them from studying full-time, they may be eligible for full-time loan assistance at a reduced course load (between 40% and 59% of a full course load).

Type of assistance: Federally funded grant to cover expenses related to tuition, books, accommodations or travel, that are higher than typical allowances due to a student's disability.

Maximum assistance: Up to $2,000 per loan year.

To be eligible students must have qualified for student loan funding and have verified their permanent disability. Medical documentation is required for a medical disability and a learning assessment is required for a learning disability. No separate application is required, but a student must complete section 400 on the paper student loan application or answer yes to the disability verification question on the web application.
