GED Handbook

Overview

The General Educational Development (GED) is a series of five tests in the high school curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Those who successfully complete all five tests will be awarded a GED Equivalency Diploma. The GED Diploma is equivalent to a high school diploma.

Requirements

Individuals wishing to write the GED tests in Prince Edward Island must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. The candidate must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
  2. The candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. The candidate must have been out of school for at least one full year.
  4. The candidate must have not received a grade 12 graduation certificate from any other institution.
  5. Candidates are required to call Holland College at 1-800-446-5265 (option 3) to arrange to take the GED Official Practice Test prior to being able to register for the GED tests.

Description


Based on the great success experienced by Islanders doing computer-based GED testing, there are now five (5) sites across Prince Edward Island where testing is available.

To register for computer-based testing:

  • Go to GED.com and follow the instructions on this website.


Paper-Based Testing is only available for students who require special accommodations, based on a diagnosed learning disability.

To register for paper-based testing:

  • Complete and submit the online application found below, and
  • Submit documents to support your diagnosed learning disability to our office:
