These are the required pieces of material:
- Program Description for each program to be given
('Program' means a full package of training, usually made up of a number of courses or modules, that prepares a student to start practising an occupation)
This is a 1- to 3-page outline that explains the training which students will receive, in terms of:
- objective: two or three lines to state what the training is meant to prepare the student for ... what it will give the person or allow him or her to do
- contents: a sort of 'table-of-contents' outline of the curriculum -- the subject matter, the modules or courses that make up the program, with the main topics which will be presented in each module or course, with an indication of the time allotments for each piece -- usually about 2 or 3 pages
- duration: how long the training is, preferably in total hours
- structure and methods of delivery for the program: a few lines to give a summary-outline of the relative use of classroom, lab/workshop, real client vs mannequin/actor, OJT, self-direction vis-à-vis instruction, correspondence, Internet, etc.
- books and other instructional materials: a list of what will be used to give the training - author, title, publisher, date
- admission requirements: qualifications and criteria which will determine acceptance or not
- evaluation methods: a few lines to tell how student progress and successful completion get determined -- tests, projects, weekly feedback, OJT rating, final examination, external exam, etc.
- Description of facilities: type and organization of space -- classrooms, shops, study areas, resource rooms and equipment, leisure space, washrooms, etc.
- List of fees: tuition and others (e.g. books, supplies/materials, lab, uniform, student activities)
- List or description of any other required items: texts, equipment, clothing, supplies etc. which the student will need to get from sources other than the school, with approximate cost to the student
- The student contract
[See the guide for creating a student contract] - Statement of refund policy
[See Refunds in a Private Training School for the rules set by the Regulations] - Promotional materials for the school: calendar, recruitment brochure, advertising
- Certificate/diploma(s)
[See the guide for creating a diploma/certificate] - Planned enrolment: for each program -- the maximum and what is probable -- and, considering the timing of intakes and graduations, an estimate of the total number of students at the peak point of the year, the time when the school would have the largest number
- Instructional plan: a few lines to explain instructor/assistant staffing arrangements -- how many staff, of what types, will be used to present the training
- Application for Instuctor Authorization for each instructor -- including an outline of work history (place/employer, type/s of work done dates of start and end) that is detailed enough to permit counting up the number of months of experience that relate directly to the proposed area of instruction
[See Instructor Authorization: requirements and process]
Step C -- Arrange for these OTHER ITEMS to be provided
- The fee for each instructor authorization: $35 for each - payable to the Provincial Treasurer of PEI
- The fee for registration of the school: $150 - payable to the Provincial Treasurer of PEI
- The security bond
[See the guide to security bonding] - Proof of the safety of the facilities -- letters or certificates from:
- Fire official: Charlottetown or Summerside or Provincial Fire Marshal
- Public health inspection official: Environmental Health
