Disability Services Review

The Minister of Department of Community Services and Seniors created the Disability Services Review Committee in December 2007 to review the range of services and supports available to people with disabilities. The Committee included Islanders with disabilities, family members, service providers, advisory groups, business owners, and representatives of all levels of government.

The Committee held extensive consultations with more than 300 Islanders in communities across the province and summarized the public%u2019s ideas and views in its first report.

The Committee also commissioned a scan of service delivery models in five provinces to identify best practices. Using those two documents as the foundation for its work, the Committee invited a diverse group of Islanders to form working groups and draft recommendations for all levels of government and the Prince Edward Island community.

The Final Report contains almost 50 recommendations aimed at improving disability services and supports in the areas of employment, housing, inclusion, income, recreation and transportation.
