Slemon Park aerospace company MDS Coating Technologies has been honoured by the United States Marine Corps, showing the growing reach of the Prince Edward Island Aerospace Industry, says Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell.

“It is exciting to see one of our Island companies being recognized for its partnership with the Marines,” Minister Campbell said. “The United States Marine Corps is known for meeting challenges and for accepting on the best efforts from its people. This award recognizes that MDS is just as committed to meeting high standards of performance.”

Marine officers visited the MDS Coating Technologies plant at Slemon Park to present the company with a Marine Corps flag. Lt. Colonel Paul Riegert, USMC PMA 226 recognized the company for its role meeting the Program Office’s coating surge requirement in the past year.

MDS works with a number of private and public sector clients in aerospace, providing a coating that protects engine components from erosion.

MLA Paula Biggar (Tyne Valley – Linkletter) represented the province at Tuesday’s event.

“To be competitive in today’s economy, companies need to have the innovative capacity to create products that appeal to needs of clients in niche markets,” Ms. Biggar said.

“Innovative companies like MDS Coating Technologies are making an important contribution to the Island economy and helping to create a prosperous future for our province.”
