Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine examinations or scans are performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They consist of an injection of a small amount of radioactive material which localizes in a particular organ of system. Detectors called gamma cameras view the distribution of the radioactive substance and creates an electronic image.Nuclear Medicine scans can identify abnormalities very early in the progression of a disease that can lead to a more favourable outcome.
The following are Nuclear Medicine procedures performed in the QEH Diagnostic Imaging Department:
- Bone scan
- Hida scan
- Meckel's scan
