Island Trails

Island Trails is Prince Edward Island's trail council. It is an incorporated, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the use of trails for health and recreational purposes. A Board of Directors consisting of representatives of various trail user groups (such as cyclists, hikers, equestrians, and snowmobilers) from across the province govern the operations of the organization.

Trail Watch

Island Trails works closely with several government departments to provide services in areas such as tourism promotion, community enhancement, and trail maintenance. The Island Trails' program, TrailWatch, uses volunteers to monitor sections of the Confederation Trail for damage, vandalism, etc. Through an accurate and consistent reporting system, these findings are passed onto the Department of Transportation and Public Works, who is responsible for trail maintenance. The organization is also working with the Department of Health and Social Services, and Education to find ways to encourage greater use of trails in an effort to promote healthy lifestyles on Prince Edward Island.
