Historical Census

Census records for Prince Edward Island cover the period from 1728 to 1901, albeit somewhat sporadically.

Not all Lots are available for each census and the type of information supplied by each successive census varies considerably. Census records for 1752 and 1798 are available in printed form at the Public Archives and Records Office as are microfilm copies of the 1841, 1848, 1861, 1881, 1891 and 1901 manuscript censuses.

Printed booklets for each Lot covered by the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, prepared by the PEI Genealogical Society, are also available for perusal at the Archives.

The Public Archives and Records Office also has on-line search capabilities for the 1841, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census at the following site Census Documents Data Search.
