History of PEI
Prince Edward Island is steeped in history and heritage. Prince Edward Island is known as the "Birthplace of Confederation" because the capital city, Charlottetown, is where the idea of Canada was born. Early Mi'kmaq settlement dates back thousands of years before the historic Charlottetown Conference. Early European settlers arrived mainly from Scotland, England and Ireland. The Island's Acadians have their roots in France.- Chronological History+
