Pest Management Regulatory Agency

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) was established in April 1995 in response to the recommendations of the Pesticide Registration Review Team. The Multistakeholder Review Team was charged with studying and making recommendations to improve the federal pesticide regulatory system. With the transfer of administration of the Pest Control Products Act from the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to the Minister of Health, the PMRA was established in Health Canada to consolidate the resources and responsibilities for pest management regulation.

Mission

To protect human health and the environment by minimizing the risks associated with pest control products, while enabling access to pest management tools, namely, these products and sustainable pest management strategies.
